A Missional Conversation
In December and January, our 9:00 am Adult Bible Education hour will be a missional conversation for the whole church as we explore who God is calling us to be! Each week, a link to a summary of the conversation will be posted in the missional section on our homepage and links to other weeks and articles will be available there and at the bottom of this page.
We also encourage you to continue the conversation by email throughout the week by sending your thoughts and questions to missional@hopechurchonline.org. Tom Kelly, Pastor Kirk and the elders will be copied on your email and would love to dialog with you more on what being missional means for Hope!
Week 5 - A Missional Conversation
Here are 6 tough questions form the streets...
Do these people have a point that we understand? How would Jesus have us to respond to today's world where we live?
What is your response to:
- Missional definition - people of God partnering with Him in His redemptive mission in the world.
- Shift from "for" to "with" the community
- The growing number of unaffiliated (1:6) and our need to learn how to engage them as "sent" people.
- 80,000 turning to Christ worldwide - fastest growing religion.
- Church is more of a "movement" - no specific church in NT but referred as the church in the community.
- People are less attracted to the church service but are more attracted to the service of the church.
- Cross-Domain synergy to address amjor issues. ( working with government, schools, etc.)
- The real affinity is in the "mission".
- The American church is being ushered back into the "streets" again, like the first 3 centuries.
- Missional as a program approach vs. "who we are" or our idenity.
- Valuing what we measure.
- Shifting our behavior to celebrate how we are serving "all aspects of our broken world" in a way that God brings people to himself.
