Depression: When Darkness Closes In

Many Psalms were written as songs that tell stories about emotions, both positive and negative. Depression often includes feelings of deep sadness and a loss of joy that can lead to other emotional and physical problems and can lessen one’s ability to function at work and at home. Scripture is clear that believers are not exempt from these painful and difficult feelings. From Job, Elijah, Jeremiah, Jonah and King David to the disciples and Paul, the Bible records their dark times of overwhelming sorrow, grief and depression. How can one cultivate a close and fulfilling relationship with God that satisfies our deep need for connection with the only true source of hope and comfort in times of depression and sorrow?
