Move Toward the Smells

Christmas often smells wonderful with pine, cinnamon, and gingerbread, but Jesus was born in a smelly barn surrounded by animals and waste. God deliberately chose this humble, stinky location over a palace to demonstrate three powerful truths. First, it reflects God's incredible humility - despite having absolute power, He chose to serve rather than be served. Second, the stinky barn represents our sinful condition, as sin creates a spiritual stench in our world that we cannot clean up ourselves. Third, it shows God's amazing love - He moves toward what stinks while our instinct is to move away from it. This Christmas, we're called to follow Jesus' example by moving toward difficult people and uncomfortable situations rather than avoiding them.
