John 17 contains the longest recorded prayer of Jesus, prayed on the last night of His earthly life. In it, He intercedes for His followers with remarkable specificity, praying for their salvation, joy, protection from the evil one, and sanctification through truth. He even prays for future believers, which means He was praying for you long before you were born. The good news does not stop there. According to Hebrews 7:25 and Romans 8:34, Jesus is still interceding for His people right now, at the right hand of the Father. He never sleeps, never takes a day off, and always lives to make intercession. Knowing that Jesus prays for us with this kind of intentionality should inspire us to pray the same way for the people we love.
