In John 5, Jesus made some of the boldest claims found anywhere in Scripture. He healed a man who had been unable to walk for 38 years, and when religious leaders challenged Him for doing so on the Sabbath, He responded by declaring His complete unity with the Father. He claimed to be the source of life itself, not merely a prophet who asks God for miracles. He also claimed that the Father has given all judgment to Him, meaning every person who has ever lived will one day stand before Jesus. The dividing line between two very different outcomes is not moral perfection but belief. Those who hear His word and believe have already passed from death to life.
