Much can be learned by studying the life of King Solomon. Solomon humbly asked God for the wisdom he would need to govern God’s people justly and for discernment between good and evil. God gave him both wisdom and wealth along with a promise to lengthen Solomon’s days if he would walk in God’s ways. Although Solomon wrote many proverbs and songs and built the Jewish temple by the instructions and provisions of his father, Solomon reigned only 40 years because his heart had turned away from the Lord.
