The Discipline of Celebration

April 17, 2022

Do you ever feel like you are in check-mate? You’re not sure what your next move should be? You might feel disillusioned or hopeless because of difficult or tragic life circumstances? That is also the story of Easter. While everything seems hopeless and there is no possible move left, the chess master shows up and declares it’s a lie, you aren’t in check-mate, there is still a move left. Jesus was not in check mate when he was falsely accused, beaten, nailed to a cross, a spear shoved through his side, water and blood pour out, and laid in a grave dead. That was not the end!

The Discipline Of Submission

April 11, 2022

Of all the spiritual disciplines, none has caused more confusion than the discipline of submission. Sinful mankind has a history of turning this Godly discipline into bondage to control and manipulate others. Because of this, many people have become averse to the thought of submitting to authority or to God. They have experienced the abuse of power so automatically say no to the discipline of submission. Submission is not oppression; it is an expression of faith and reveals our devotion to our creator. What is the biblical discipline of submission? What does submission look like when practiced correctly?

The Discipline of Suffering

April 3, 2022

As we travel through life, each of us experiences hurt and suffering. It might be a daily pain like stubbing a toe, having a headache that makes working too difficult or having to pump gas when its freezing cold and the wind’s blowing. You might experience worse and longer lasting hurts like addiction that leads to theft, broken trust, overdose and even death or be diagnosed with a painful and debilitating disease. Being comfortable isn’t wrong, but living rightly is more important than living comfortably. To live is to experience suffering; to live well is to suffer well. Suffering well leads to Christ-likeness. It is a discipline to suffer well. How can we learn to say no to false comfort in order to say yes to suffering well and experiencing true comfort?

The Discipline Of Solitude

March 27, 2022

The discipline of silence and solitude is often neglected in our fast paced culture. Modern existence systematically fills the tiny cracks of inactivity with anything and everything. The goal to life seems to be “kill boredom ” or “sanitize silence.” Why are we afraid of silence, solitude, or being alone? What can be achieved when we practice this discipline?

The Discipline of Meditation

March 20, 2022

People no longer attend to anything because we are attending to everything. We are distracted. Being distracted makes it difficult to focus and not focusing makes it difficult to think deeply. This leads to living shallower lives. Can you relate? Are you a distracted person? Do you struggle to focus? Do you find yourself frustrated when you don’t get quick answers to complex issues? The great enemy to an internally strong life is distraction. What is the solution?

INTERNALLY STRONG / EXTERNALLY FOCUSED

When we say Internally Strong this is what we mean:
Moving closer to Jesus  which happens as we seek to: know Him and His Word, be transformed into His likeness, do what we are made by Him to do and connect with others in meaningful relationships in the way He designed us.

When we say Externally Focused this is what we mean:
Engaging others around us, locally, regionally and globally in personal, small group and corporate action to bring the whole Gospel to the whole person.
